At Enviva we recognize that transportation and shipping contribute to our environmental and green house gas emissions impact. Enviva will take steps to minimize and reduce emissions and its environmental impact in alllogistics activities. We will give priority to low-impact distribution networks. As a policy, Enviva seeks to minimize transportation emissions by sourcing biomass from areas within approximately 75 miles of ourfacilities. Further to this, we strive to locate our manufacturing facilities close to waterways and major ports, thereby maximizing the use of water transportation and minimizing environmental impact.2
Where feasible, we use barge transportation rather than rail, and rail rather than trucks. Furthermore, we seek to engage logistics partners that deploy technological innovations for more efficient transportation, including trucks, trains and vessels. Potential innovations with water transport include larger ship sizes, hull and propeller optimization, more efficient engines, and novel low-resistance hull coatings. Additionally, we will actively support those partners attempting to replace traditional, high emission fuel with low emission alternative fuels such as natural gas and biodiesel. Additionally, we seek to maximize the lot size of overseas transport to minimize total emissions.
Finally, Enviva engages and signs contracts only with environmentally responsible third parties, including port operations and logistics companies, and barge owners and operators.
